Abstract

The whole classical heritage shows up in Imagem da Vida Cristã. A first look reveals that Heitor Pinto has read all the classical authors directly, but he has also, in fact, used the best handbooks (those elaborated in Antiquity, as well as those elaborated in the Renaissance) to further his knowledge on the themes of Humanism and Christian theology. At the same time, he read the most relevant propositions in a dialectical way: knowledge of himself and of external reality; life and death; man and God. A philosopher and theologian, he seems however to have cultivated a true passion for History, Geography, and Nature in general. In the texts, all things have an inherent symbolism, and every text uses many sources on different areas of knowledge, such as mythology, numerology, the Bible, art, geography, and so on, in order to discover the truth.
