Res Antiquitatis - Journal of Ancient History (RES Journal) is a peer reviewed interdisciplinary journal that aims to provide an interdisciplinary forum for the publication of research on Antiquity and its Reception. It addresses not only the academic public, but all readers with an interest in the ancient world.
RES Journal is published by CHAM Publishing, a university press specialising in the open access publication of high-quality books and journals in the Humanities. In alignment with the mission of CHAM – Centre for the Humanities of the School of Social Sciences and Humanities (NOVA FCSH) and the University of the Azores (UAc), its primary objective is to disseminate innovative research that adheres to the highest standards of quality and scholarly rigor, promoting inter- and transdisciplinary approaches while covering a broad geographical and chronological range.
The RES Journal main scope is the study of several Ancient civilizations (Mediterranean, African, Asian), and the distinct ways through which Antiquity has been received, perceived, and conceptualized throughout time. This is done both for its intrinsic scientific value as well as for the belief that such endeavour may become, on the whole, a valuable conceptual device/equipment for the study of other periods and historical topics/questions.
RES Journal intends to promote the development of Ancient and Reception Studies in Portugal, being open to the scientific production of both established researchers and junior scholars. It will seek to highlight the research produced in and out of Portugal and, to that purpose, English, French, Spanish (Castilian), and Portuguese will be the main editorial languages.
Internationalization is crucial to the affirmation of Portuguese research. Res Antiquitatis will contribute to that by publishing the work of both Portuguese and foreign scholars in these languages, a common channel of scientific exchange and discussion.
Works submitted to RES Journal must be relevant to the journal’s general field of research and purposes. The journal only accepts proposals for original articles, which have not been previously published or are under consideration for publication elsewhere. Res Antiquitatis is also available to publish short notes’ studies (e.g., archaeological reports) and reviews.
