Words in exile during the Estado Novo. Bernardo Santareno in Cuba

Abstract

In 1970, Rogério Paulo staged in Cuba A Traição do Padre Martinho (1969). Thus, Bernardo Santareno becomes the first Portuguese playwright to be presented in Cuba. In 2018 three of the actors who were part of the original cast accepted to be interviewed and unrecognized criticism about the case was rescued. All this material is now recovered, analyzed and made known as a particular case of a dramaturgy of exile.
