In this article, we consider different periods of the critical reception of the so-called “Letter on the genesis of the heteronyms", since its first publication in 1937 until our days, while we collect and confront the genetic material from the author’s archive related to the
production of the letter and of the narrative that it contains. This simultaneous analysis of the reading possibilities of the text and of its materiality seeks to provide new guidelines for an interpretative assessment of Pessoa's comments on his own creative process in which fiction and Philology stand together.
