About the Journal
INFECTA, Journal of Research in Literature, Philosophy, and Arts is a digital, semi-annual, open-access academic publication supported by the IELT - Institute of Studies in Literature and Tradition, the IHC - Institute of Contemporary History of the Faculty of Social and Human Sciences at NOVA University Lisbon, and the Faculty of Letters of the Sorbonne/Crimic.
Spanning multiple disciplinary areas, the primary aim of the journal is to foster discussion around Literature, Literary Theory, Philosophy, Cinema, Visual Arts, and Performing Arts, encouraging their intersection on both national and international levels.
The word "infectus, -a, -um" in Latin signified "unfinished," "unaccomplished," or "infeasible", but also referred to "untilled land," as it appears in various passages from Cicero, Caesar, and Virgil. By reclaiming the notion of incompletion inscribed in the etymology of the word, while simultaneously embracing the inherited and modern connotation of contagion and dissemination, INFECTA Journal finds its potency in the force of affect and in the demand to interrupt established certainties, truths, and powers. Drawing on a concept of thought as desire—an infinite movement that never seeks to be total or crystallized—the researchers behind this editorial project view the study of literature, philosophy, and the arts as an interdisciplinary reflection on the past and a method of active engagement with present-day causes.
All content in the journal is freely accessible and published under a Creative Commons Atribuição 4.0 Internacional. license.
