Amongst Fernando Pessoa’s short stories, A very original dinner seems to be in a rather unique position. On the one hand, it is the only work of its kind authored by the persona Alexander Search, and, on the other hand, it does not fit within the scope of the detective stories that dominated a good part of the short narratives written or imagined by Pessoa. In this essay, I seek to inquire to what extent the originality of the dinner will or will not be measurable.
