In a letter from December 1931, Fernando Pessoa analyzes and rejects João Gaspar Simões’ methodology of literary criticism. This study intends to discuss the way Pessoa considers a possible relation between the author’s biography and his literary work. The essay argues that this question is crucial to Pessoa’s aesthetic theorization.
