This study analyses some of the main notions included in the critical work of José Augusto Seabra on Fernando Pessoa, as presented in Fernando Pessoa ou o poetodrama (1974) and O Coração do Texto – novos ensaios pessoanos (1996). This reading attempts to point out the importance and originality of these contributions, by emphasizing the critic’s attention to new materials from the poet’s literary estate published at that time, the “epistemological break” proposed by Seabra’s notion of a Pessoan intertext, which considers a “multiplicity of forms”, and the acknowledgement of the presence of a founding esoteric dimension in the literary work.
