Abstract

In 1955 and 1960, Eduardo Lourenço publishes his first and essential articles on the poetry of Orpheu, reading it in its opposition both to the romantic tradition and to the ‘presencist’ generation that follow. The negative heroes of this poetry are Pessoa and Sá-Carneiro, but the strength of Pessoa’s writing is unique. Therefore, in contrast with Régio and Torga, Pessoa is the transfiguration, or revolution, par excellence.
